Police warn of bank card scam

Police are warning of a scam involving bank cards and automated banking machines.
The scheme works like this:
  • One crook watches as a customer punches in their personal identification number.
  • A second crook will create a distraction by telling the customer he or she has dropped a $20 bill on the floor.
  • As the customer looks for the money, the crooks use the opportunity to remove the card and replace it with a fake.
  • Once the customer leaves, the crooks use the real card and the code to withdraw as much money as they can.
Police say customers should never leave their bank cards, even for a moment. They also say customers should immediately report any suspicious activity around bank machines.
