The son of a 49-year-old woman who died after she was found in her Orleans home with her throat slashed will face a first-degree murder charge, CBC News has learned.
Police said they were called to a home at 634 St. Bruno St. in east Ottawa at 1:07 p.m on Tuesday. Paramedics said the woman had her throat slashed, was unconscious and without vital signs when they arrived.
The woman's husband found her in the home and called police, multiple sources said. He performed CPR until firefighters arrived.
She later was pronounced dead. Police are now calling the death a homicide.
A source said Wednesday morning that the woman's 18-year-old son will be charged with first-degree murder when he appears in court.
Police said they would not be identifying the victim until next of kin had been notified.
Neighbours, however, have identified the woman as Luce Lavertu, who they said has lived with her military husband in the neighbourhood for about 12 years.

Tai Tang, who lives in the area, said police made an arrest on his Esprit Street property, about three blocks away from the site of the homicide.
"We got a phone call saying there's something happening behind your house," he said.
"It's a young guy, about 18 (years old), tall, about six feet. He ran through the neighbour's yard, right there into the front."
Tang said the man did not resist arrest and seemed "pretty scared."
Neighbours said that young man had been hiding in nearby yards for about two hours after the attack happened.
