Case transferred to Montreal police after traces of accelerant found on the scene
Police are investigating a major fire that ravaged a two-storey building in Montreal's Gay Village early Thursday morning.
The case was transferred to the Montreal police after traces of an accelerant were found in or near the back of the building.
It took about 100 firefighters four hours to put out the fire at the corner of St-Timothée and Ste-Catherine streets.
It began just after 1 a.m. ET Thursday in a mixed residential and business area of the Gay Village.
The flames gutted the second floor of the building.
A Pizza Pizza restaurant as well as at least one other business were heavily damaged by water and smoke.
One firefighter was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Ste-Catherine Street East will remain closed to traffic between Amherst and St-André streets Thursday morning.
