Pedestrian dies after being hit by a van in downtown Calgary

A woman has died after she was hit by a van in downtown Calgary.
It happened at Fifth Street and 10th Avenue southwest around 12:30 p.m. MT.
Police say the woman, who was about 40-years-old, was in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a van making a right-hand turn.
Officials say she had a walk signal and the right of way.
Charges are pending against the driver.
Police say the woman's workplace was nearby.
Victim assistance members attended the scene as some fellow employees were "privy to the accident," according to police.
