Calgary bystanders try to lift car off trapped pedestrian

Calgary firefighters are praising bystanders who rushed to help a pedestrian pinned under a car Tuesday afternoon.
The man was standing on the corner near 16th Avenue and 19th Street N.W. when he was hit by a car making a left-hand turn.
"The arriving crews were met with an unusual scene … citizens had surrounded a small car and were in the process of trying to take the weight of the vehicle off the person trapped under it," according to a fire department press release.
"The quick thinking and fast action taken by the bystanders helped reduce the amount of injuries sustained by the victim."
Firefighters used airbags to remove the car and the man's injuries are not serious. Police are investigating.
