Kathleen Wynne vows 'clarity' in budget on Kitchener GO upgrades

Two-way, full-day train service between Waterloo Region and Toronto is 'high priority'
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne promises there will be "clarity" in the upcoming budget for a plan to upgrade GO service in Waterloo Region.
"We're going to be bringing a transit investment plan in our budget as you know, we've talked about how we're going to build transit over the years to come," said Wynne. "We'll be bringing that plan forward in our budget and there will be more clarity then."
Wynne made the comments on The Morning Edition Wednesday, saying she has heard much from citizens in the region about the need for better train service.
“Many people, before they talk to me about LRT they talk about full-day, two-way GO service,” said Wynne. “Increased connectivity between Kitchener-Waterloo, the region and the [Greater Toronto and Hamilton area], I would say that’s a high priority for me.”
Wynne added many constituents in Barrie have also voiced a similar desire for better GO service between their city and Toronto.
However, the premier was not able to give an exact timeline as to when commuters in the region could expect more trains.
“My hope is that we’ll be able to move on it sooner than later,” said Wynne.
When asked about the region’s plans for light rail and the anti-LRT stance of some candidates running for municipal seats, Wynne said nothing has changed on the province’s part.
“The municipalities will have to have that discussion about LRT. We’ve committed $300 million to support rapid transit in Waterloo Region and that commitment remains in place,” said Wynne.
