Our friends over at CBC Music have enlisted the help of Winnipeg radio personality Melissa Spence to give us the lowdown on the top Aboriginal albums of 2013.
Here's Melissa with her top pick.
At the forefront of the action, musically, were three men from Ottawa who’ve grown to form one of the biggest names in Canada — A Tribe Called Red. Their sophomore album, Nation II Nation, dropped in May and made the 2013 Polaris Music Prize short list.

It features some of the greatest traditional drum groups of our time, including Northern Voice, Eastern Eagle and more. Thanks to their many fans, A Tribe Called Red also scooped up four Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards in August and have been touring nonstop.
Everyone from grandmothers on the reservation to university students on dance floors have been pumping out this new sound of traditional and electronic that ATCR have mastered in their brief three years. When it came time for me to select a number one Aboriginal album for 2013, Nation II Nation made sense, so make sure you add it to your collection if you haven’t yet.
