Yesterday friends, family members and neighbours decorated Christmas trees in the memory of those who perished in the July 6 train derailment and explosion in Lac-Mégantic, Que.

Forty-eight trees were donated and placed in front of Ste-Agnès church in downtown Lac-Mégantic after Mayor Colette Roy-Laroche asked residents to light up the town in preparation for the holidays.

Members of the Lafontaine family were there to remember the people they lost — Gaétan Lafontaine, his wife Joanie Turmel, his sister-in-law Karine Lafontaine and family business employee Marie-Noëlle​ Faucher.

The Boulet family was also there. They had just received news from the coroner that their sister Marie-France would never be identified. Louise, Lucie and Bernard Boulet, three of the 11 Boulet siblings, were outside decorating a tree for their sister.

“I’m very sad. A little bit would have been a lot," Bernard said of the coroner's news.
