5 helpful tips if you get stranded this winter

With winter driving conditions throughout Saskatchewan, emergency crews are offering advice to motorists.
Parkland Ambulance paramedics responded to a hypothermia call Sunday in the Shellbrook, Sask. area when a man left his vehicle after it broke down.
The 61-year-old was found wandering outside for nearly four hours.
When paramedics got to him he had moderate hypothermia and was taken to hospital in Saskatoon in serious, but stable condition.
Officials said incidents such as this, highlight important safety reminders for those who become stranded because of weather or mechanical difficulties:
- Leave home with a full tank of gas
- Be sure your cell phone is fully charged
- Pack along extra blankets, winter coats, boots
- Include your winter survival kit, which should have some water, high energy snacks, a small shovel, and non clumping kitty litter for some traction if ice is the problem
- If you do become stranded, stay with your vehicle, signal for help and wait to be found
