Winnipeg's newest police station has opened on Grant Avenue, in a move the city's police chief says will boost officer morale.
City and police officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday at the West District Police Station, which replaces two stations on Lyle Street and Pembina Highway.
"Officers on a daily basis are dealing with the worst that society has to offer," police Chief Devon Clunis said.
"So it's nice once you've dealt with your incident on the street to come back now and deal with all the administrative pieces, to walk into a welcoming environment."
The 33,000-square-foot station will be home to uniform operations, a plainclothes investigative unit, a service centre, and a community support unit.
