It's starting to look like a stadium.

Organizers of the 2015 Pan Am Games treated reporters and city officials a tour on Thursday of the construction site for the tournament's soccer stadium, which will also serve — under the name Tim Hortons Field — as the new home for the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Located on Cannon Street East at Balsam Avenue in east Hamilton, the construction site sits on the grounds of the former Ivor Wynne Stadium, the Ticats' home since the team's inception.

Wearing hard hats and safety boots, visitors made the steep climb to the fourth level of the stadium's west stands, to visit what will become an open-concept entertainment and concession concourse.

Later, tour participants trudged through the pit of dirt that will become the stadium's playing field.

TO2015 officials say the job is 50 per cent complete and that the stadium will be ready to open in June of next year.

"We know we've got to have this ready for June 30, 2014 for the 'Cats to take it over," said Ian Troop, CEO of TO2015, the organizing committee for the games. "We started with that in mind and we're right on track."
