'Predator' back in jail

A 68-year-old man with a long history of plying women with alcohol until they overdose, is back behind bars in Victoria after violating his bail conditions. Gilbert Paul Jordan is charged with sexual assault and administering a noxious substance to a woman in Victoria earlier this year.
Jordan was convicted of manslaughter in a similar case in Vancouver in 1988. At the time, the judge described him as a predator, who used alcohol as his "deadly instrument of choice".
The case made headlines because of evidence that at least six other women died of alcohol poisoning while on binges with him. Jordan did his time and was released in 1997.
Then in June of this year, Jordan was charged with two counts of assault, one count of sexual assault and one count of administering a noxious substance, alcohol, to a woman in Victoria.
He was released on bail, on condition he stay away from liquor stores, and not consume any alcohol.
Earlier this month, the self-described chronic alcoholic breached those conditions by buying a bottle of wine. Provincial Court Judge Michael Hubbard says because Jordan's drinking was an important factor in his criminal past, he could not set him free.
No date has been set for Jordan's trial.
