Jogger hit by car dies, Hamilton Police confirm

A jogger hit by an alleged drunk driver died Thursday night, Hamilton Police confirm.
The 33-year-old woman was jogging along Charlton Avenue East around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was hit by a car driving down the Sherman Cut while she was crossing the road.
Police said a citizen called 911 to report what happened. EMS arrived on scene to find the woman had life threatening injuries. She was taken to hospital.
The 42-year-old driver stayed on scene. He blew over the legal limit in a breathalyzer test, police said, and had marijuana on him.
The driver was originally charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, impaired operation causing bodily harm and possession of a controlled substance. His charges are upgraded to impaired driving causing death.
The family asked for the victims' name not to be released, police said.
