Creation of 2,800 jobs offset by 3,000 more people joining labour force in province
The unemployment rate in New Brunswick held steady in September at 10.7 per cent, according to figures released Friday by Statistics Canada.
The rate held steady despite an additional 2,800 jobs being created, as the number of people in the labour force also increased with about 3,000 more people looking for work.
Employment is at a similar level to where it was in September 2012, stated Statistics Canada.
The province's unemployment rate has been higher than 10 per cent for more than a year, peaking at 11.2 per cent in June, when it was the highest in the country.
In the figures released Friday, New Brunswick has the third-highest rate in the country, behind Prince Edward Island's 11.1 per cent and the 11.0 rate recorded in Newfoundland.
The monthly report puts Saint John's unemployment rate at 10.5 per cent and Moncton's at 7.9 per cent.
