Contractor in charge of project to be fined $70,000 per day for missing Oct. 1 deadline
The southeast portion of Calgary’s ring road will not be ready to open on Tuesday as planned.
The $769-million project extending Stoney Trail past Peigan Trail to Highway 22x has taken three years to build.
Transportation Minister Ric McIver said he's still waiting for a final safety audit report.
Chinook Roads Partnership, the contractor group who partnered with the Alberta government on the project, will be slapped with a $70,000 fine each day the road remains closed beyond Oct 1.
When it’s finished the 25-kilometre route will run from 17th Avenue southeast to new interchanges at Highway 22x, bringing the ring road to 70 per cent of completion.
