Facility will replace existing Dauphin Correctional Centre
A new jail will be built in Dauphin, Man., to replace the existing Dauphin Correctional Centre, the Manitoba government has announced.
The new facility will be larger than the current jail, which is nearly 100 years old, Justice Minister Andrew Swan said Friday.
"The new building will provide enhanced space for programming and, as was the case with the new Women's Correctional Centre, this new facility will offer a better and safer environment for corrections officers to do their work," Swan said in a release.
Planning is already underway for the new jail. The land where it will be built is being donated to the province by the City of Dauphin and the Rural Municipality of Dauphin.
