Demolition crews in Inuvik, N.W.T., were hard at work Monday tearing down the old high school.
Samuel Hearne Secondary School has been vacant for the last year as crews cleared out the building.
On Monday, workers started taking down the old metal workshop and gymnasium. Crews were expected to be working until 9 p.m. that night.
Once the buildings are down, the debris will be cleared by another contracted company.
The high school opened in 1969. It, along with the town’s former elementary school Sir Alexander Mackenzie, has now been replaced with the town’s new ‘super school’, named East 3.
