Edmontonians with disabilities continue to protest the impending cuts to persons with developmental disabilities (PDD).
Earlier this week, the province announced it would delay the planned $42 million cuts — but as CBC’s Kristina Partsinevelos reports, rallying demonstrators who amassed at the legislature on Friday are demanding more than just an extension.
"We want this government to come clean with all Albertans and with caregivers and family members and Albertans with developmental disabilities," said Edmonton-Strathcona MLA Rachel Notley, who spoke at the rally.
"We want to know exactly how much money they are going to put into this program this year and we want to know exactly when contracts will be signed and for how much."
Jaclyn Baker is a PDD service worker in the city who also attended Friday’s rally.
"To take $42 million away from the most vulnerable people of society is insane in my opinion," she said. "I'm outraged by it. Very upset. I work with these people everyday and to see their struggles as it is and get more hits like this. It's wrong."
The protesters have vowed to return to the legislature grounds again next Friday.
