A team of do-gooders have taken to Winnipeg streets with inspirational messages and tape.

Mackenzie and Mikayla Carter and their friend Marley St. Cyr spent a week of their summer vacation posting 200 inspirational messages across the city.

"If somebody is down, they can just see the message and then it might put a smile ont heir face and brighten up their day," said Mackenzie, who is 13 years old.

The little cards have hand-written messages like "enjoy the simple things" or "just smile."

The group said the idea came from the band Emblem 3 who is playing at the MTS Centre on Monday night.

The band started a movement called Team Inspire, which encourages youth to be positive and inspire others to do good deeds.

Mikayla, 15, said the girls tweeted the band about what they’d done and one of the members responded.

"He tweeted back, ‘That’s why I love you guys,’" she said. "Just them knowing about it, I think they’d be really happy to know that we’re promoting it."

The group spent hours preparing the cards and posting them all over downtown Winnipeg.

"My favourite quote would be, ‘Be the change you want to see in the world,’ because as people, we have to help keep positive vibes going around," said St. Cyr, who is also 15. "In order to do that, you have to do good."

St. Cyr’s mother, Marnie, drove the pair downtown so they could post their signs.

"When we drove by you could see each one on a parking thing or a post. It was nice as a parent to see them do something positive with their time," she said.

The Carter’s mother, Nicole, shares that pride. "They’re all really good kids, and I think about what they could be doing, we’ll take this any day," she said.
