Rowers end Northwest Passage bid

Voyage ends in Cambridge Bay, short of goal of Pond Inlet

The four men trying to row the Northwest Passage from west to east have decided to end their voyage in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.
The crew of Arctic Joule arrived in the community Wednesday night.
Kevin Vallely is one of the rowers.
He says they realized it will take too long to reach Pond Inlet, Nunavut

"There's really a point where you have to say that's the limit and we want to do this safely," said crew member Kevin Vallely. "We don't want to risk our lives and certainly not the lives of others having ultimately to come to a rescue that's sort of written in stone if we go any further."

Instead, they will fly out of Cambridge Bay for Vancouver either Friday or Sunday.
Vallely said they are taking their 7.6 metre boat with them.
"We certainly wouldn't want anyone else to deal with that beast other than us. No you gain a certain attachment to something that you suffer so hard with."
