A respiratory infection has claimed the life of another penguin this winter, Calgary Zoo officials said Sunday.
The female penguin, named Asa, had been suffering from aspergillosis — a fungal infection that affects the respiratory system — since early January.
Despite ongoing treatment, her health rapidly declined over the past few days. Asa was found dead early Sunday morning.

In a statement on the Calgary Zoo's website, officials say the infection was "too deeply entrenched to respond to the medication."
The statement goes on to say that veterinary staff think underlying medical issues may have made Asa more susceptible to the infection.
Vets at the Zoo have done a post mortem and are waiting for test results.
Zoo officials say no other penguins are at risk.
