Howard McCurdy of LaSalle, Ont., has been named to the Order of Ontario.
McCurdy was the first African-Canadian Member of Parliament for the New Democratic Party.
He is a scientist and civil rights activist. He also formed the Guardian Club to fight racial discrimination in Windsor.
McCurdy co-founded and chaired the National Black Coalition of Canada.
