The company that operates the drill rig Henry Goodrich says a small fire on board was quickly extinguished Wednesday.
Husky Energy said a small flash fire broke out on the rig at about 11:15 a.m.
The fire, which was in the vicinity of the drill floor, was put out immediately using a pressure washer.
No one was injured.
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board said drilling operations have been shut down until the fire is investigated and it is deemed safe to resume drilling.
The C-NLOPB is in contact with senior officials at Husky and is monitoring the situation.
