Ontario's New Democrats want to cap the amount executives in the public sector can be paid, adding to their list of demands in exchange for supporting the Liberal government's budget.
The NDP wants to limit pay for executives at hospitals, universities, power utilities and other publicly-funded institutions and agencies to $418,000, or twice the premier's salary.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is also demanding a $100-million fund to improve local health care services, saying the budget will lead to some hospital closures.
She says the NDP's proposal for a higher tax on workers paid over $500,000 a year would pay for the new fund and the cost of removing the provincial portion of the HST from home-heating bills.
Premier Dalton McGuinty says the government wants to see all the NDP's ideas at one time and won't react to one-off announcements.
But Horwath wants the public and the Liberals to have time to think about each of the proposals, and says she will present more ideas next week.
The Conservatives vow to reject the budget, which means the Liberals need at least two NDP votes for it to pass or the minority government will fall, triggering another election campaign.
