Windsor wants to deal with lodging homes issue

Windsor residents gathered Thursday night to talk about lodging homes in the city.
City officials want to find out how Windsorites think the issue should be handled in the city.
They were asked by council to prepare a report on the different ways to possibly handle the issue.
The main concern is that there are around 36 licensed lodging homes and around 500 suspected unlicensed rooming houses in the city.
Vivian Cattaneo lives near the University of Windsor.
"It's difficult," he said of living near lodging homes. "Sometimes the garbage is horrendous. The upkeep is pitiful and it's not right not, even for the students themselves."
Fulvio Valentinis is a city councillor. He said regulation is key.
"Well the concerns are the number of lodging homes and the lack of regulation," he said.
Residents are invited to respond with their ideas on the city's website.
The issue is expected before council by late fall.
