Mexican flown to Calgary to face murder charge

A man wanted in a drug-related Alberta shooting death is on his way back to Canada after being detained on the U.S.-Mexico border.
The accused and the victim are both from Mexico, but the shooting happened last Oct. 13 in the Picture Butte-Shaughnessy area, north of Lethbridge.
RCMP allege the victim was killed in a drug dispute.
A 1 a.m. complaint about gunshots brought RCMP officers to a home in the area in October. Nearby, the officers found the body of 24-year-old Mauro Alonso Hernandez-Renteria, who had been living in the area.
RCMP say the 29-year-old suspect, Luis Alfonso Ochoa -Gamez of Cuahtemoc, headed for Mexico, but U.S. authorities detained him at the New Mexico border on an immigration violation.
RCMP are expected to fly him into Calgary at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
"He will be retained in custody at an RCMP facility and brought before a judicial hearing within 24 hours of his return to Canada," police said in a statement.
