Halifax is still waiting for millions of dollars in disaster relief money more than seven years after Hurricane Juan and the blizzard known as White Juan hit Nova Scotia.

The Halifax Regional Municipality submitted bills to the federal government totalling $19.9 million after the two storms and is still waiting for nearly $6 million.

The information is contained in a report to Halifax regional council from municipal staff.

Municipal officials say federal audits of the claims are challenging and time-consuming, but they don't mention when the municipality might expect the money.

Hurricane Juan walloped Nova Scotia in September 2003. Most of the Halifax claims are for damage caused to Point Pleasant Park and Hemlock Ravine, two municipally owned parks.

White Juan hit in February 2004, blanketing the city in heavy snow that took municipal crews weeks to clean up.
