The Great Canadian Baking Show's Season 6 bakers share their favourite hometown bakeries
Even a baker needs to buy their treats once in a while, and this season's crew have some bakeries to recommend
With the return of The Great Canadian Baking Show comes a group talented new contestants eager to make a lasting impression on the judges.
But even some of Canada's best bakers need a break from the oven once in a while.
Sometimes they need to head out for a sweet fix and here are their recommendations for you from across the country.
Coco's, Toronto
According to new baking contestant, Chi from Toronto, Coco's makes delicious treats that could satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth.
"They make the best cakes, the best croissants and the best chocolate chip cookies in the city," she says.
That's high praise from such a talented baker.
District Café, Edmonton
Zoya's a huge fan of Edmonton's District Café.
It's easy to see why. This restaurant has built relationships with Alberta's best farmers and brings in fresh ingredients from across the province.
Jeanne's Bakery, Winnipeg
"Every Winnipegger knows Jeanne's Bakery," Jomar says.
Established in 1936, Jeanne's specializes in making indulgent cakes for every occasion.
"Jeanne's Bakery has a classic birthday cake with classic colours in it and it has a shortbread cookie underneath," he says.
Jomar also has a Toronto favourite: Blackbird Bakery.
Lemonade, Vancouver
Lauren is gluten intolerant and has a hard time find bakeries that can accommodate her dietary restrictions.
"I don't frequent a lot of bakeries," she says.
Luckily, she found Lemonade in Vancouver which specializes in gluten-free baking.
Crust Bakery, Victoria
If you're into sweet treats, John has the place for you.
"The best bakery in Victoria is hands down Crust Bakery," he says, "they do all these little tiny little pastries that are just absolutely delicious."
Hong Kong Island, Toronto
Krisiti loves Toronto's Hong Kong Island.
She says the black sesame sticky rice balls, as well as the egg tarts, are an absolute must.
Eadha Bread, Winnipeg
There's no shortage of fantastic bakeries in Winnipeg.
But, Nigel's favourite is Eadha, a bakery specializing in sourdough bread.
"They put it in everything and it's awesome," he says.
Le P'tit Atelier, Montreal
Montreal is known for its croissants. But, Lydianne thinks that Le P'tit Atelier has some of the city's best.
And, if you're looking for other baked goods, she also recommends Boulangerie Jarry for brioche and Fanfare for their cheesecake.
La Brioche, Ottawa
The nation's capital is chock-full of fantastic bakeries. Rosemary thinks that La Brioche that takes the cake.
She says that she simply can't resist their tiny custard squares.
"They're so delicious and their baklava is out of this world," she adds.
Bread By Us, Ottawa
Andre loves Ottawa's Bread By Us. He says everything they make is fantastic, "I love all of the bread and the little treats that they have there."
