Sydney is full of ambition, studying to become a surgeon and professor, while also working as a server and at a local boutique to pay for school. That may mean that her baking projects start in the middle of the night when she's finished work, but that doesn't stop her from going big and trying unexpected ideas, such as lighting a seven-layer snowman cake on fire. Why not! Sydney is a proud Maritimer who loves to use local East Coast ingredients in her concoctions.
When did you start baking? I have been baking my whole life and do not even remember my first bake. There are photos of 12-year-old me showing off a cake I just made, probably thinking it was gorgeous, but [it was] looking like a hot mess. Baking has just always been part of me and always existed in my day-to-day life. It has grown with me, with my passions, my ambitions, and with my creativity.
What's your signature bake? My go-to recipe is one I can make in my sleep. It is also a special recipe to me because it's special to my mom and my relationship. It was one of the first things we would bake together and we named them Kisses from Heaven because they taste like heaven (best chocolate chip cookies EVER) and we would put little Hersey's kisses on the top of them as our signature touch.
Why do you think you can be Canada's Best Amateur Baker? In my baking, I dream big. I light cakes on fire, I make whimsical animated designs, I throw together a million flavours and I have goofy chaotic moments. I am a very motivated person and one of the things that motivates me the most is creativity and love. So, that is what you'll see!
