Schitt's Creek leads nominees for 2020 Canadian Screen Awards
Tuesday morning the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced their nominations for the Canadian Screen Awards across categories for film, television and digital media.
CBC's Schitt's Creek leads both television and overall Canadian Screen Award nominations with 26, including Best Comedy Series; Best Writing, Comedy; and Best Direction, Comedy, as well as multiple acting nominations in Best Lead Actor, Comedy; Best Lead Actress, Comedy; Best Supporting Actress, Comedy; and Best Supporting Actor, Comedy.
Other nominations for CBC comedies include eight for Kim's Convenience, including Best Comedy Series and five acting nods; a Best Comedy nomination for Workin' Moms, which also earned five total nominations alongside Baroness von Sketch Show, which also picked up five nominations.
Tallboyz earned two nominations, with Little Dog, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Air Farce New Year's Eve 2018, Cavendish and A Christmas Carol: The Family Musical with Scrooge Loose all earning one.
For CBC dramas, Anne with an E earned 17 nominations including Best Drama Series and Best Lead Actress, Drama Series nominations.
Coroner received five nominations including Best Drama Series and Best Lead Actress/Actor nominations. Murdoch Mysteries earned three nominations, with Burden of Truth picking up two nominations, including a Best Lead Actor, Drama Series nomination for star Peter Mooney.
Diggstown earned two nominations, with Frankie Drake Mysteries, Street Legal and Unspeakable picking up one nomination each.
CBC Gem original series received 19 nominations, including a sweep of the Best Web Program or Series, Fiction category with How to Buy a Baby, Save Me, The 410, and Ming's Dynasty, alongside Detention Adventure. True Dating Stories received a nomination for Best Web Program or Series, Non-Fiction, and Talent Drivers received a Best Support Performance nomination for Julian Richings.
Nominating juries and members of the Canadian Academy choose the nominations. Membership will vote between February 18 and March 6, 2020 to determine the winners.
The Awards will be presented Toronto during Canadian Screen Week, including the Canadian Screen Awards Broadcast Gala, which airs live on CBC and the CBC Gem streaming service on Sunday, March 29 at 8:00 PM (9:00 PM AT/9:30 PM NT).
