New sci-fi series features Snoop Dogg and music led by Drake producer Boi-1da
Afrofuturism, youth activism, and eco-awareness: reasons to watch CBC’s Utopia Falls coming Feb 14.
CBC's new original young adult sci-fi drama Utopia Falls will be streaming for free, exclusively on CBC Gem on Friday, February 14.
Imagine a world with no past – only a future.
In the dystopian ruins of Earth, a group of teens are chosen to compete in a performing arts competition. When they find a hidden historical Archive (voiced by none other than hip-hop icon, Snoop Dogg), they are forced to question everything they have been taught.
Ultimately, they need to use the power of music to expose what's been hidden from them.
The Canadian behind Drake's biggest hits, Boi-1da is the show's executive music producer.
The Jamaica-born, Toronto-raised Matthew Samuels, also known as Boi-1da has been behind your favourite songs for about a decade now. In 2019 alone, the 14-time Grammy-nominated producer was behind three of the five Best Rap Song Grammy nominees, and was nominated for Producer of the Year for Drake's God's Plan.
He is also behind Rihanna's Work, Eminem's Not Afraid, as well as Kendrick Lamar's The Blacker the Berry and To Pimp A Butterfly.
Whether it's Hip Hop, Pop, Latin, House, Classical, or Indigenous styles - he's showcasing it all in Utopia Falls.
World-renowned choreographer Tanisha Scott (Cardi B, Rihanna) is leading performance direction. The three-time MTV VMA-nominated choreographer from Toronto rounds out the team.
The cast are all talented, emerging Canadian actors
Utopia Falls stars Robyn Alomar (Riot Girls), Akiel Julien (American Gods, Warigami), Robbie Graham-Kuntz (Full Out), Phillip Lewitski (Supernatural), Humberly Gonzalez (Orphan Black), Devyn Nekoda (Degrassi), and Mickeey Nguyen (Make It Pop).
