Coroner follows the life of the fierce and quick-witted Dr. Jenny Cooper (Serinda Swan), who investigates sudden or unexplained deaths as a coroner in Toronto. The series explores these cases through post-mortem examinations, while Jenny grapples with clinical anxiety, and enjoys a sweet and salty single mother-son relationship.

Here's a few reasons why you should start watching Coroner now!

1. Dr. Jenny Cooper is realistically imperfect

We all love those leading ladies who are out there to save the day. But how much of their inner demons do we actually see while they try to set things right? Dr. Jenny Cooper battles anxiety as a recently widowed single mother, struggling between her responsibilities as a parent to her teenage son who is also coping with his father's loss, to delivering her best at the crime scene, to keeping her sanity in check. Her disturbing past resurfaces in the present day, preventing her from moving on. Frequent panic attacks hamper her best abilities. When love walks into her life, she gives it a chance but is yet to give it her all.

2. Dynamic duo who take on the crime scene as an A-team

Detective Donavan McAvoy (Roger Cross) plays a perfect match to coroner Dr. Jenny Cooper at every crime scene. His calm and cool temperament and Dr. Jenny's fiery and fierce attitude makes for a perfect combo to get to the bottom of each case. Their partnership has developed into a strong and collaborative unit with every case cracked since the start of the series. Watch out for Detective Donovan's witty one liners that make a great addition to ease the tense mood during investigations!

3. Mental illness is addressed and not brushed under the carpet

Coping with anxiety, PTSD, childhood and posthumous trauma and being able to get through each day is addressed throughout the series. From seeking therapy from a counsellor to being supremely dependent on stabilizers, Dr. Jenny Cooper tends to run away from her past while coping with the present. Her son Ross occasionally escapes reality while reminiscing about the times when his father was alive. Jenny's love interest Liam is also going through his own struggle of dealing with PTSD from his days as a former army vet.

4. Autopsies galore!

For someone who doesn't enjoy watching the human body being dissected and showcased on a casual basis, the autopsies in Coroner will not repel you.  Tastefully depicted with just the right amount of tissue tearing and bone tweaking, here's a sneak peak of how it is done!

5. Toronto

The diverse cultural landscape of Toronto is highlighted in every episode of Coroner. The characters and locations reflect variety, making the visuals and story distinct in every episode. Keep an eye out for some exquisite street shots of Downtown Toronto, scenic Crothers Woods and street art under the 401 by the Humber river to name a few!
