This might be the best worst Fast Money round on Family Feud Canada

Fresh off their win against the Amaral family, Chelsea and Jacob from the Dernederlanden family try to score 200 points to win $10,000. What happens next might be a new Family Feud Canada record.

We're sorry, but the Dernederlanden family's unique and super entertaining performance might be our best-worst round of Fast money on Family Feud Canada

And before you judge and say you'd get all the board answers, you might want to consider a few things that play a huge part in what goes down during these high-pressure situations.

Whether it be nerves, too much excitement, or the cat just having your tongue, we wanted to share the insider scoop as to what might have gotten in the way of Dernerderlandens winning $10,000.

How it went down

After beating the Amaral family, Jacob and Chelsea Dernerderlanden took a shot at Fast Money but ended up scoring just 89 points in total — quite possibly our lowest Fast Money score we've seen yet! (Once again, we're sorry, guys!)

Chelsea says she was nervous but not as much as she thought she'd be in that moment. However, what shocked her the most was seeing that "If You're Happy and You Know It" scored zero points (on the question: Name a song every young child knows).

Jacob admits to us that he "didn't really prepare." His strategy was to think of simple answers. Hence his "Baby Shark" answer — which actually scored 11 points.

"I honestly thought [Gerry] was right. That it wasn't going to be up there," he says. "I was a little surprised Gerry Dee didn't know what it was, as it was popular at one time."

Don't wing it

Sometimes under thinking is a great strategy in life. But not for this game.

Family Feud Canada's game master, Yette Vandendam, wants you to practice. "Families should create Fast Money games and play them at home so they get used to what 20 or 25 seconds feels like," she says. "Families should also remember the rules, in that the first word or answer is what is taken. There are no do-overs, so think before you speak!"

Family Feud Canada's director Harbinder Singh believes once the family members are on the stage by themselves, the pressure gets to them. "It's just them and Gerry on the big stage with all the lights and the intense music. It has a totally different feel and experience," he says. "The time limit adds to the pressure. You have to be quick or things will go south fast."

Game-winning tips

Thinking of applying to play the Feud? Our game master shared this final tip: Don't forget that the answers are based on the responses of 100 Canadians that were polled.

"We're not looking for the 'right' answer. There are no 'right' answers," she says. "We're looking for the 'most popular' answer. And in the moment of play, it can be hard to keep that in mind."

Now, the Dernederlanden family gets a second chance at $10,000 — but they'll have to beat the Pisani family first! Tune in to CBC on Wednesday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. (8 NT) to find out if luck is on the Dernederlanden's side.
