CBC Gem is now streaming on Roku, Samsung and more!
We're still free, but now you can watch Gem in more places than ever before.
You've been asking for Gem on more platforms, and we've been working to make that happen! By the end of the summer, Gem will be available on most connected TV platforms. What is connected TV? Sometimes called a Smart TV, a connected TV is any television from popular brands like Samsung and Roku that includes an app store. They allow you to install the Gem app and start streaming right on your TV, with no casting or extra device required.
Now you can find CBC Gem for free in new places like the Roku Channel Store, the Samsung app store, the LG Content Store and more, plus pre-existing platforms like iPhone and iPad, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, and Android phones and tablets. Click here for a full list of available platforms.
What's new? We're still free, but now with more features!
You can still watch CBC Gem for free by downloading the app on your mobile device or connected TV, or using a web browser on your laptop or computer. For those of you who have signed up for a free account, you can now take advantage of extra features like creating a list of your favourite shows, access to 14 local livestreams from across the country and picking up exactly where you left off in any series, film or documentary. If you haven't signed up yet, you can do so right here!
There's also a Premium option for $4.99 a month, which will let you watch all your favourites ad-free and give you live, 24/7 access to CBC News Network.
How can I find new things to watch on Gem?
CBC Gem has thousands of hours of on-demand shows and films. It's the exclusive streaming home of CBC originals like Schitt's Creek and Kim's Convenience; it's where you can catch up on Murdoch Mysteries and The Great British Baking Show; and where you can discover new shows and movies from around the world. There's also kids' content like Daniel Tiger's Neighbourhood, PJ Masks and Gary's Magic Fort, and kids' shows are always ad-free.
When you open the app, you'll see newly-released episodes of shows and documentaries, popular comedies and great dramas. You'll also be able to find special collections highlighting Pride Season, Black History Month, National Indigenous History Month and more.
If you're looking for live TV, Gem has that too! Just select "Live TV" in the app and you'll have access to live news, including The National with Adrienne Arsenault and sports, like Hockey Night in Canada and special events.
There's always something new to watch, and we're happy to recommend the best shows, docs and films on Gem. For weekly recommendations, sign up for the Gem newsletter, or follow us on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
