Xavier Tondo of Spain won the Vuelta de Castilla and Leon on Sunday, protecting his overnight lead to finish nine seconds ahead of Bauke Mollema of the Netherlands and 17 in front of countryman Igor Anton.
"[I was] finally able to get over the hump after coming close so many times," Tondo said.
British rider Ben Swift edged a pack of chasers to claim the 167.7-kilometre fifth stage from Madrigal de las Altas Torres to Medina del Campo.
Tour de France champion Alberto Contador finished 24th overall, almost three minutes off the pace.
"I had a good race, but I wasn't lucky with the tire punctures on the mountain stage," said Contador, who will race the Flecha Valona before the Giro d'Italia in May.
