Denis Shapovalov marches into Stockholm Open quarter-finals with straight-sets win

Canada's Denis Shapovalov is on his way to the Stockholm Open quarter-finals after a 6-4, 7-5 win over Antoine Bellier on Wednesday.

The Richmond Hill, Ont., native fired eight aces and broke on two of four opportunities in the victory. He also won 86 per cent of his first-serve points.

2019 champion Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., defeated Switzerland's Antoine Bellier 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Stockholm Open.

Bellier, of Switzerland, went without a single breakpoint opportunity in the loss.

Shapovalov, 23, received a bye into the second round as the fourth seed in the tournament.

He will next face the winner between J.J. Wolf and Alex de Minaur on Thursday.

Bouchard exists Guadalajara Open

Meanwhile, Canada's Eugenie Bouchard was ousted from the Guadalajara Open in the second round after a three-set loss (7-5, 2-6, 6-1) to Jelena Ostapenko.

The Montreal native hit five aces and converted on seven of her nine break-point chances. The 12th-seeded Ostapenko went eight for 19 on her break-point opportunities and committed seven double faults to Bouchard's four with no aces.

Bouchard, 28, defeated Kayla Day in straight sets on Tuesday in the opening round.

Bianca Andreescu of Mississauga, Ont., now stands as the lone Canadian remaining in women's singles competition after her second-round win Tuesday.

Leylah Fernandez lost in the first round on Monday, while Rebecca Marino fell in the second round on Tuesday.

Dabrowski, Olmos advance in women's doubles

In women's doubles action, Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski and partner Giuliana Olmos of Mexico handily defeated Nadiia Kichenok and Kimberley Zimmermann 6-0, 6-3 in second-round play on Wednesday in Mexico.

Dabrowski and Olmos broke on four of nine chances while saving all three of their opponents' opportunities. The fourth-seeded duo also won 74 per cent of their first-serve points.

They will either next play Xu Yifan and Zhaoxuan Yang or Yana Sizikova and Anastasia Potapova in the quarter-finals.
