Did Luis Suarez bite Giorgio Chiellini?

Uruguayan star forward Luis Suarez is under fire again for an incident at the FIFA World Cup.

This time it involves a possible bite on Italy's Giorgio Chiellini late in their Group D match in Natal, Brazil. Video replays appear to show Suarez sinking his teeth into the Italian's shoulder while the two players were vying for position in the Italian team's penalty area.

At the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Suarez also found himself in the middle of controversy. That time it was over an intentional handball that prevented a Ghana goal. He was given a red card and suspended for a match. 

In Tuesday's incident in Brazil, the referee didn't issue a card, although Suarez was called for a foul on the play. FIFA could still review the play and issue further punishment.

Uruguay won the match 1-0 and moves on to the Round of 16, while Italy heads home.

It is the third biting incident involving the talented but controversial striker.

Chiellini said after the game that he had been bitten. "It was absolutely clear. There's even a mark," said Chiellini, who was upset Suarez wasn't sent off.

Uruguay Coach Oscar Tabarez said he didn't see the alleged bite and repeatedly declined to comment. "If it happened, the referee probably didn't see it," Tabarez said.

He also defended his star striker. "Suarez, besides the mistakes he might have made, is the preferred target of certain media," Tabarez added.

Suarez was banned for seven matches by the Netherlands football federation in 2010 after biting PSV Eindhoven player Otman Bakkal in a league match when he played for Ajax.

After moving to Liverpool, he bit Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in 2013 and was banned for 10 games.

FIFA can sanction players with bans of up to two years if its disciplinary commission decides there is a case to answer.

• Oct. 15, 2011 — Suarez accused of shouting racial slurs at Patrice Evra during a match between Liverpool and Manchester United. Suarez is suspended for eight games and fined £40,000. When the teams meet again in February 2012, Suarez refuses to shake Evra's hand.

• April 21, 2013 — In a match between Suarez's Liverpool and Chelsea, he is accused of biting Branislav Ivanovic. Suarez is banned for 10 games.
