Chappuis extends Nordic combined lead with win

Defending World Cup champion Jason Lamy Chappuis of France won his second straight Nordic combined event Saturday to extend his lead in the overall standings.

Lamy Chappuis was sixth after the jumps going into the 10-kilometre cross country and finished in 29 minutes, 14.5 seconds to edge second-placed Akito Watabe of Japan by 1.0 second.

Alessandro Pittin of Italy, who was the fastest skier, took third.

After seven events, Lamy Chappuis leads with 454 points, 86 ahead of Germany's Tino Edelmann, who finished 14th. Watabe is third with 316 points.
