Flames waive Nilson, Eriksson, Warrener

The Calgary Flames placed forward Marcus Nilson, and defencemen Anders Eriksson and Rhett Warrener on waivers Thursday.

Each player has a year left on his contract.

Nilson, 30, was set to make $1 million US, Eriksson, 33, was to earn $1.5 million and Warrener, 32, was due to make $2.35 million.

Nilson had three goals in 47 games last season, Warrener had a goal and three assists in 31 games, and Eriksson had a goal and 17 assists in 61 games.

With the NHL's free-agent signing period set to begin Tuesday, the league announced Thursday that the salary cap for 2008-09 will be set at $56.7 million, up $6.4 million from last season.
