Flames remain active on trade front

Calgary Flames general manager Darryl Sutter continues to burn up the phone lines, completing his second trade in less than 48 hours following a 3-0 loss to Philadelphia on Monday night.

Sutter sent centre Olli Jokinen, an unrestricted free agent at season's end, to the New York Rangers along with tough guy Brandon Prust for a pair of underperforming forwards, Ales Kotalik and Chris Higgins.

They join forwards Niklas Hagman, Matt Stajan, Jamal Mayers and defenceman Ian White, who arrived from Toronto in a seven-player deal on Sunday.

All-star defenceman Dion Phaneuf was the centrepiece of the trade with the Maple Leafs as Toronto GM Brian Burke has made it clear he wants to build from the goaltender out. Later Sunday, he acquired veteran Jean-Sebastien Giguere from Anaheim for fellow netminder Vesa Toskala and forward Jason Blake.

Unlike the Leafs, Calgary finds itself battling for a playoff spot in the NHL's Western Conference, with six new forwards hoping to make a difference.
