Canada blanks U.S. to retain Four Nations Cup

Canada won hockey's Four Nations Cup for the fifth time in six years Sunday, defeating the United States 2-0 in the championship final in Leksand, Sweden.

Jennifer Botterill of Winnipeg scored midway through the first period andnetminder Shannon Szabados of Edmonton made surethe goalstood up against the rival Americans.

Calgary's Hayley Wickenheiser scored into an empty net with four seconds left to secure the victory.

"All the games between us are really tight," said Szabados, who stopped 22 shots for the shutout."Once we got through the first period I knew that it was going to be a tight game and that [Botterill's] goal might be the game-winner."

Also on Sunday, Finland beat Sweden 1-0 for the bronze medal.

Canada, which also beat the U.S. in last year's final in Kitchener, Ont., dominated this year's event. Thereigning Olympic and world championswon all four of their games while outscoring their opponents 17-7, including a 6-3 win over the Americans in round-robin play.
