Raptors advance: What was happening the last time that happened?
Toronto wins a Game 7 for 1st time in franchise history
The stage was set, Drake was in his seat and the Raptors finally won a playoff series, ending a 15-year slump.
That's right, in case you forgot, the last – and only – time Toronto's basketball team made it to the second round was back in 2001. The team looks a lot different than it did back when they closed out the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
The last time the Raptors advanced to the second round, they lost to the Philadelphia 76ers. Allen Iverson and company went on to lose to Kobe Bryant and the Lakers in the NBA Finals. Those two teams finished this season at the bottom of their respective conferences.
Here's what was going on around the world the last time the Raptors were able to close out a playoff series.
Oh, hey, Jimmy!
Drake may be the Raptors' global ambassador now, but the last time his team got to see more than the opening round of the playoffs, he was making his debut as Jimmy on Degrassi.
Diamondbacks on top of the world
The Arizona Diamondbacks won their first – and only – World Series championship in 2001, becoming the fastest expansion team in the major leagues to win a championship, doing it in the franchise's fourth season.
It's another <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/DbacksTBT?src=hash">#DbacksTBT</a>, pres. by <a href="https://twitter.com/Chase">@Chase</a>, and for this one we're celebrating the 2001 World Series champions. <a href="https://t.co/6CgqMSZ6q0">pic.twitter.com/6CgqMSZ6q0</a>

Box office blockbusters
The first installments of Fast and Furious, Legally Blonde, and Harry Potter all came out in 2001. Oh, and Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway? She was making her acting debut in The Princess Diaries.
Early millennial jams
Lifehouse, Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson and Jennifer Lopez featuring Ja Rule were on top of the Billboard charts.
Raptor Throwback
Oh and Raptor Luis Scola? He was busy making it to the 2001 Euroleague final with Saski Baskonia and a much shorter hairdo.
Not only did the win mark the first second-round berth in over a decade but it also marks the first Game 7 win in franchise history, leaving every Raptors fan like:
