Canada's Huot swims to third gold of Paralympics

Danielle Campo won bronze in the 400 freestyle for swimmers with a physical disability.

Canada's Benoit Huot led from start to finish in the men's 200-metre individual medley Thursday en route to his third gold medal of the Paralympic swimming competition.

Huot, a native of Longueuil, Que., won the race in two minutes, 15.78 seconds, just eight hundredths of a second off his world record.

"It was a really good swim, really close to the world record," said Huot, who was born with club feet. "I wish I was a little under, but I can't ask for more – a gold medal, a Paralympic record and a third gold medal, so it's going really well for me."

Rod Welsh of Australia was second in 2:22.13 while Piotr Pijanowski of Poland was third in 2:22.62.

Victoria's Stephanie Dixon finished second to legendary Nathalie du Toit in the women's 200 IM for swimmers with a physical disability for her fourth silver medal of the Games.

Du Toit of South Africa captured the gold and broke her world record with a new mark of 2:29.98. Dixon touched the wall in a personal best time of 2:41.84, while Claire Cashmore of Britain won bronze in 2:48.07.

"She was out really fast," Dixon said of du Toit. "I just had to keep my head in my own lane and not go out too fast with her and then die."

In other events, Danielle Campo of Tecumseh, Ont., won a bronze medal in the women's 400-metre freestyle for swimmers with a physical disability.

Australia's Chantel Wolfenden, the world record holder, captured the gold medal in a Paralympic record time of 5:20.26 seconds, over 11 seconds faster than second-place finisher Oxana Guseva of Russia.

Campo touched the wall in 5:39.13.
