Taking action: elementary schools, universities play active role in reconciliation

Universities and elementary schools across the country are taking action, and playing an active role in reconciliation. This week on Unreserved, we learn how rediscovering history can be a catalyst for change. 

When Toronto Star reporter Tanya Talaga went to Thunder Bay to cover First Nations voting patterns, she came across the story of seven First Nation students who died while attending high school in the city. She later turned their stories into the book, Seven Fallen Feathers.

Toronto musician Ansley Simpson only started singing three years ago, and earlier this year released her first album, Breakwall. 

A few weeks ago Unreserved introduced you to the students of Winnipeg's École Laura Secord School, who were learning about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 calls to action. This week, the students are rewriting the calls to action in kid-friendly language. 

Grace Swain, a first-year student at Western University is living in the first ever Indigenous student residence, where smudging is allowed.
