Inspiration, rebellion and not staying quiet

Whether it's through poetry, pictures, or song indigenous people have always shared story as a way to teach, to learn and speak out against injustice. 

But what about the new stories — where do they come from? 

Anishinabe kwe Mary Black's poem breaks the silence about about indigenous struggle and perseverance. And goes viral. 

A young Mi'kmaq man, Tristan Grant, follows his mother and uncle into the family business of hip hop.

And sticking her tongue out at the patriarchy Cree student and activist Erica Violet Lee turned a selfie into a conversation about colonization and indigenous land rights.

We're got a happy update for an Iqaluit family who made national headlines after spending three months living in a tent while waiting for public housing. 

David Hodges is helping indigenous youth find their voice through music. The Montreal hip hop producer helped start the N'we Jinan project, which means "our home" in Cree. The unique music initiative brings a mobile recording studio into First Nations communities and records original songs written by and about indigenous youth.

The idea behind Neechie's Pizzeria and Taco was inspired by a pow wow on the Carry the Kettle First Nation. That's where Khaled Hossain's first tasted an Indian Taco. And where he met his fiancée Tashina Ashdohonk.
