From the House to the Red Chamber: How Indigenous people make their voices heard on Parliament Hill

Ottawa is Canada's national capital, and the centre of federal politics. It's also where important decisions are made that impact the lives of all Canadians. 

Today on Unreserved, from Indigenous MPs, to Senators, to lobbyists, how Indigenous people are making their voices heard on Parliament Hill.

One of the most recognizable voices in federal Indigenous politics belongs to Senator Murray Sinclair. He spoke to Unreserved host Rosanna Deerchild about the long and illustrious career that brought him to the Red Chamber. 

Indigenous Walks is a tour that takes visitors to locations around downtown Ottawa that tell a bit about the local history of Indigenous people. Jaime Morse showed Unreserved's Stephanie Cram some important landmarks around City Hall. 

Last October, Leah Gazan became the new NDP MP for Winnipeg Centre, beating out Liberal incumbent Robert-Falcon Ouellette. The Lakota politician is now finding her place on Parliament Hill. 

Last year, the Canadian Labour Congress held the first ever Indigenous Lobby Day in Ottawa. Greg Scriver, who is Turtle Clan from Kahnawake, helped organize the event, and he says it's important that Indigenous people lobby for the issues that matter most to them.
