This week you'll meet an opera singer who overcame remarkable health challenges, an entrepreneur inspired by her daughter and hear how Hinterland Who's Who videos are acknowledging Canada's 150th anniversary.
Mezzo-soprano Rhonda Head hails from Opaskawayak Cree Nation in northern Manitoba. Her talent has taken her all the way to Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. But the path to get there wasn't an easy one. Imagine facing brain tumours, deafness and tinnitus — not knowing if you'd ever sing again.
The iconic Hinterland Who's Who video series is produced by the Canadian Wildlife Federation. The short, informative clips feature species found in the Canadian outdoors. For Canada's 150th anniversary, the federation decided to do something a bit different, re-recording two videos in six Indigenous languages. They've re-recorded two videos in Indigenous languages. Project coordinator Annie Langlois explains why.
