Why musician Krista Wodelet loved Nora Ephron's essay collection Crazy Salad
Krista Wodelet drums for the Calgary-based band Nice Horse. Their music moves beyond traditional definitions of country music. Wodelet recently read the 1975 essay collection Crazy Salad by writer and filmmaker Nora Ephron.
"I've been on a female comedy writer kick lately and moved on to Crazy Salad by Nora Ephron. She is the screenwriter behind the films When Harry Met Sally... and Sleepless in Seattle. She was also a brilliant journalist. Crazy Salad is a collection of essays she wrote in the 1970s about women and feminism. She says she's a writer and a feminist and that the two seem to be in conflict. Ephron is certainly critical of the women's movement around that time as she points out its flaws. But at the same time, she understands that she can be supportive of it and realize that, even though it is not perfect, it's necessary. She's such a talented writer."
Krista Wodelet's comments have been edited and condensed.
