Singer-songwriter Lynn Miles on her latest transporting read

Lynn Miles is a veteran singer-songwriter and lover of transporting fiction. She's currently reading The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin. 

The Orchardist is about a man who owns an orchard in Oregon at the turn of the last century. One day, these two teenaged girls show up. They're destitute and hungry and they're in rags and they're both pregnant. They show up in his orchard and they're stealing food, so he starts to put food out for them and tries to get them to come inside. It's the story of what happens between them. My favourite authors are the ones who are very powerful in their descriptions, who can take me to another place. In this book, there are times where you feel you are walking around these beautiful orchards in the spring and the bees are buzzing around and the fruit is coming out. That's the gift of writing a great novel.
