The Beaches are a alternative rock band formed in Toronto. The band, which won the Juno Award for breakthrough group of the year in 2018, released the five-track EP The Professional in May 2019.

When not recording and performing with the band, singer and guitarist Jordan Miller is a fan of books. She dropped by The Next Chapter to discuss why she loved reading Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner.

"I like fantasy fiction because you can go to a new place and escape your life for a minute. Swordspoint is a fantasy novel. It takes place in a world where nobles figure out their political disputes by hiring a gladiator or an assassin, who will then fight to the death.

"One of these assassins gets into trouble with the nobles and has to figure it out. It's a book for people who are interested in great fantasy and escapism. I also recommend it to people that are interested in non-binary romance and queer romance. It's a beautiful and poignant love story. You don't really see queer love stories being the focus of fantasy novels so it's unique in that way as well."
